Jenni Schaefer |

In dance class, at the age of only four-years-old, Jenni Schaefer thought she was fat.
Jenni knows eating disorders, but she also knows freedom. Based on the unique therapeutic technique by psychotherapist and author, Thom Rutledge, Jenni treated her eating disorder as a relationship rather than an illness. Naming her anorexia/bulimia ‘Ed,’ an acronym for eating disorder, Jenni learned to distinguish herself from Ed, and eventually got rid of him.
Jenni wrote a book about her experience titled Life Without Ed: How One Woman Declared Independence from Her Eating Disorder and How You Can Too (McGraw-Hill). She is a contributing author to Chicken Soup for the Recovering Soul and the upcoming book Chicken Soup for the Recovering Soul: Daily Inspirations (HCI Books). Jenni writes regularly for self-help/recovery publications, speaks nationwide, and has appeared in Cosmopolitan, Cosmogirl, Publisher’s Weekly, and Woman’s World.
In addition to speaking and writing, Jenni is a singer/songwriter — using music during her recovery and now within her outreach to help others. She is known for incorporating humor into her work, which provides a hopeful light and adds a fresh perspective.
Jenni, who serves as a Special Consultant for The Ranch Eating Disorders Extended Care Program, was honored by Jessica Weiner as a Featured Actionist for her efforts in promoting eating disorder awareness. Jenni says, “If just one person decides to stay on the path of health instead of getting on the road of body hatred and self-destruction, then my work has been successful.”
