Koli Tengella's electrifying stage presence is a fusion of gut busting humor with political and social consciousness. This sums up his unique style as a stand up comedian, writer and widely sought after commentator. From describing President Bush's struggle with the English language, " Bush claims to be having a war on Terrorism. Have you listened to the man speak. The only thing he is having a war on is subjects and verbs! ", to declaring Democrats as the political party of the spineless to hysterical observations of the challenges of everyday life." Caller ID in not an answering machine. If you call me and don't leave a message I’m not calling you back!", this hilarious insightfulness is the comedy of Koli Tengella.
"My act is like adult playtime with something to think about after you laugh your behind off!", says the 15 year veteran of standup comedy. Not only is Tengella a well respected stand up comedian , but also an accomplished actor. Koli has appeared on television, stage and in film. "Theater", says Tengella," is a means of growth and self-expression!"
Koli's career as an Edu-tainer is expressed in his work as an educator through his Tengella Learning Through Theater Program with young people and adults. The program consist of developing reading and writing skills, critical thinking, cooperative learning and enhancing self-esteem.
Koli has wowed audiences by performing at the Improv Comedy Club Chain across the country. He has worked with such comedians as Richard Belzer, Tommy Davidson, Tracy Morgan, John Witherspoon, Bill Bellamy and David Alan Grier. He was also a featured comic at the National Association of College Activities East Coast Conference (NACA) and has performed at over 150 colleges and universities across the country. Koli has performed at Caesars Palace in the Pocono Mountains and has been the opening act for such music greats a Patti Labelle, Three Dog Night and Gospel music star Vikki Winans.
Koli is also a poet who has written and developed a one person poetry show that blends spoken word performance with jazz and hip hop music. He has contributed his talents to charitable causes such as Comic Relief, AIDS and Breast Cancer Research.
